    4. Day Tours in Todos Santos or San Dioniso Canyon

    3-Day Mule Packing Expedition

    • Mule packing expedition allows the mules to carry some of the weight for us, including all of the food and equipment for the trip (maximum 40 kilos on each mule)
    • Our tours include 8 meals cooked over the campfire for the duration of the trip and can be customized to the dietary needs of the group (vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, balanced, gluten-free)
    • Hike can commence at the trail head of San Dionisio or Rancho la Rueda
    • We can ascend and descend on the same trail or do a complete cross over through the mountains ascending at one side and descending at the other
    • Approximately 40 kilometers of hiking with a maximum elevation of 2,000 meters at the peak "El Pichacho"
    • This trip would be for intermediate to advanced hikers, clocking approximately 15 km daily
      • Beginners can expect to do this same hike in 4 or 5 days

    Example Itinerary for 3-day trip in Sierra la Laguna

    Day 1

    Starts at the San Dionisio Canyon trailhead around 6:00 or 7:00 am and begin our hike towards the first camping area called “Poza de Pepe”. The estimated duration of the walk is around 5-8 hrs. more or less depending on the physical condition of the group. The distance of the climb is ~10 km with a elevation gain of ~815 meters. Upon arriving at the camp, we will have lunch and then we will begin to set up our camping tents and swim in the natural pool. After swimming, we will have dinner and then spend the rest of the night talking around the campfire and drinking tea.

    Day 2

    Wake up around 6:00 am or 7:00 am to have coffee or tea. Then we will have breakfast and pack up the camp to continue our hike to the top of the mountain valley called the “Laguna”, the heart of the endemic pine and oak forest in the camping area. The estimated duration of the walk is around 3 hours +-, with a distance of ~7 km and an elevation gain of ~478 meters. After arriving at the camping area in the valley, we will set up our camping tents and take some time to prepare our camp and enjoy our lunch. We will then hike to “El Picacho”, the highest peak in Baja California Sur with views of the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California with an altitude of ~2,000 meters. The estimated duration of ascent to the peak and descent back to the valley is 5 hours. +- with a distance of 11 km and an elevation gain of ~304 meters. We will return to camp in the afternoon to have dinner and enjoy the campfire the rest of the night.

    Day 3

    Wake up between 7:00 and 8:00 to drink coffee or tea. We will have breakfast and then pack up camp to begin the final descent back into San Dionisio Canyon. The estimated duration of the walk is 7 hours. +- with a distance of ~17 km.

    Luis, our main tour guide, is an excellent chef and has more than 5 years of experience cooking for groups up to 30 people over the campfire in the mountains. His flavor profile reflects the deeply rooted traditional flavors of Baja California Sur and Mexican cuisine. Meals will be tailored to the wants and needs of the group and we do accept requests for any specific meals!

    Day 1

    Lunch

    • Stewed pork rinds with vegetables and rice served with corn or flour tortillas

    Dinner

    • Chicken soup with vegetables and rice served with corn or flour tortillas

    Day 2

    Breakfast

    • Mexican style scrambled eggs with tomatos, onions ,and peppers with freshly cooked pinto beans from the pot served with corn or flour tortillas

    Lunch

    • Tostadas with fresh tuna salad served with lime, mayo, and cucumbers

    Dinner

    • Vegetable and pasta soup with flour or corn quesadillas

    Day 3

    Breakfast

    • Beef machaca with beans served with corn or flour tortillas

    Recommended Gear

    • Maximum weight per person to put on the mule = 10 kilos
      • This is very important to weigh your gear in advance becasue it will delay the start of the hike for the entire group if we are overweight on the mule.
    • Must bring your own lightweight camping tent
    • Must bring your own sleeping bag for low temperatures up to -7° C
    • Must bring a resuable plate/bowl, spoon, and plastic or metal cup that holds warm liquids for meal times
    • Hats, sunscreen, and long sleeves UPF clothing to protect yourself from the sun
    • Small backpack to carry snacks, water, and other small personal items during the hike
    • Small duffle bag with clothes and equipment to put on the mule
    • Headlamp for night time, biodegradable soap for hygiene, and hydration bladders or 1 to 2 liter water bottles

    Pricing

    • Guide: $9,000 pesos per day for groups of 1 to 6 people. Additional people more than 6 pay $1,700 pesos per day
    • $200 pesos for food with a total of 6 meals per expedition
    • Mule: $1,500 pesos per day
    • Mule boy: $1,500 pesos per day
    • CONANP and Rancho Sierra de la Laguna permits are not included in our pricing, but we can help in the registration process

    Mule boy is not optional and is required when mule-packing!

    We accept payments in cash (USD or MXN), bank transfers for Mexican nationals, or venmo or zelle for foreigners.
